COVID-19 Health and Safety Syllabus Addendum

Clayton State University is committed to providing and promoting a healthy and safe learning environment. All students, faculty, and staff are expected to comply with all social distancing mitigation measures, practices, guidelines and policies. Please note the following rules and regulations that are in place during the fall semester due to the COVID-19 pandemic:

 1.      Anyone who is feeling ill should refrain from coming to campus and should consult the symptoms related to COVID-19 to determine if a visit to a physician or clinic is necessary. Any faculty, staff or student who is exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms, has been sick with COVID-19 symptoms, tested positive for COVID-19, or has been potentially exposed to someone with COVID-19 (either through community-related exposure or international travel) should self-isolate or stay home and follow the reporting procedures below:

a.      Faculty and staff should follow the requirements and reporting guidelines set forth in the Workplace Health and Safety Return to Work Plan and notify their supervisor.

b.      Students should use the reporting form found on the Clayton State University COVID-19 website.

2.      All faculty, students, staff, and visitors are required to wear face coverings over the nose and mouth in classrooms and academic buildings.  Anyone not using a face covering will be asked to wear one or vacate the area.  The enforcement of these policies, practices, and guidelines will necessitate the effort of all campus community members. Repeated refusal to comply with these polices, practices, and guidelines by students may result in disciplinary actions up to and including suspension, as described in the University’s Academic Catalog and Student Handbook and Code of Conduct.  Additional personal protection equipment may be required for clinicals, practicums, applied performance and laboratory classes.

3.      All classroom seating and furniture in common areas on campus has been measured and marked to accurately represent 6-ft physical distancing. No furniture or signs or floor labels should be moved or removed.

4.      Assigned seating will be used in all classes on campus, and attendance will be taken on a daily basis.  Seating charts will be accessible through the D2L course space and should be reviewed prior to the first day of class. The instructor area in each classroom has been marked to allow a minimum of 6-ft separation between the designated area and classroom seats. Students are to refrain from entering the instructor designated space.

5.      Signage indicating the maximum capacity for each classroom has been placed on the entry doors to each classroom and on the media podiums. Additional class participants above the designated number are not allowed.

6.      Disinfecting wipes or other approved cleaning solutions and disposable gloves will be provided in each classroom. Students should wipe their desk area before each class. Faculty should wipe the podium and any technology peripherals/touchpads which are permanently located in the classrooms upon entry into the room.

7.      Stairways in buildings have been designated as either up or down to minimize the number of persons on the stairs at one time. All persons are to adhere to the posted signs and directions, except in the case of fire or other emergency requiring evacuation.

8.      Elevators have been measured for physical distancing and the maximum capacity has been posted. If you must use the elevator, please comply with the floor markings to maintain physical distancing requirements.

9.      Any classrooms that are not in use for classes should be left vacant unless prior scheduling approval has been granted.

10.  To aid in ventilation of classrooms and to maximize air exchange rates, faculty should leave their classroom doors closed during each class meeting and make sure they are closed them after their class concludes. Students are not to enter rooms until 10 minutes before class.
